Event description

Whistles and horns at the ready – Urban Nerds turns up the heat this August with an immense lineup for its annual Carnival warm up party!

On Saturday August 25th, Urban Nerds is gearing up for a special Carnival event to remember! Known for big lineups and a taste for even bigger basslines, the Nerds have pulled out all the stops, bringing in a torrent of talent that literally leaves you gasping for breath:

Breakage & MC Wrec, Mala & Coki, Kode9, Jackmaster, True Tiger, Marcus Nasty & Shantie, Rattus Rattus & IC3, The Heatwave, Ragga Twins, Uncle Dugs, Terror Danjah, Fonti & Bushkin, Champion, Sunship & MC RB, White Tyson, Collapse, Alruii, Dozy and Native - yet another unmissable event!

Breakage has cemented his position at the forefront of the UK bass scene with his versatile style and heavy dubstep and drum ‘n’ bass productions packed with clout! MC Wrec – who has been delivering seamless and dynamic performances for over 16 years – joins as host.

Dubstep duo Mala & Coki (Digital Mystikz) are known to smash out big-hitting releases that chew you up and spit you out! As co-owners of the influential dubstep label and club night DMZ alongside fellow producer Loefah, expect to see a room full of big, happy, sweaty bass faces!

Hyperdub label boss Kode9 will work the speakers to their maximum with his penchant for absolutely huge basslines, whilst co-founder of UK label Numbers, Jackmaster, will bring his unpredictable style with a selection of twisted, mutant, head-bopping beats. Dubstep collective True Tiger – who consist of Sukh Knight, Gowers, Blue Bear, Stanza and Chunky - will add to the bass-induced frenzy on the dancefloor!

Pioneer of UK funky and Urban Nerds resident Marcus Nasty indulges in the carnival vibe alongside crowd-hyping MC, Shantie, whilst Rattus Rattus brings his talent for throwing down the biggest party bangers with a set hosted by legendary jungle MC, IC3.

In room 2, The Heatwave brings on a carnival tirade with a host of artists on a dancehall tip. Heading up the room will be The Heatwave themselves, the guaranteed party starters who will pull out ragga selections that have ravers with a thirst for dirty basslines gagging for more! UK underground heroes the Ragga Twins take their jungle-inspired dynamic brand of jump-up to the stage, Uncle Dugs will provide further tropical-tinged flavours, whilst UK favourites Terror Danjah, Fonti & Bushkin and Champion will ensure the whole room is skanking!

Trigger fingers at the ready as Room 3 will be hosted by Merk Chicken, purveyors of all things UK garage! Legendary DJs and producers Sunship will take their bouncy party vibes to the decks, hosted by the seminal MC RB. Brixton collective Native dust off their garage vinyls and prepare for a 2-step onslaught, whilst resident DJs Alruii, White Tyson, Collapse and Dozy take to the decks, bringing the Merk Chicken brand of hype tracks and nostalgia into full effect!

In five years, Urban Nerds has risen in the ranks of underground clubbing to become one of London’s biggest bass brands. The Nerds themselves – James Benenson, James Rompani and Mark Hodson – share a love for a wide range of bass music, and a vision of changing the landscape of London nightlife. Spanning dubstep, grime, electro, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, reggae and beyond, they draw from their individual backgrounds in music, journalism and promotions to create one of the first multi-genre nights in the big smoke – the amalgamation of bass culture.

Urban Nerds event are renowned for a great atmosphere, a strong and loyal crowd and an unashamed love for bass-led party sounds that set them apart from their peers. With an expanding empire that includes a clothes line and merchandise, plus exciting plans yet to hatch, you can expect bigger, badder and bassier things to come!

The Urban Nerds Carnival Special packs out every year. In true Carnival style, it’s the biggest, brightest and boldest celebration of all things bass. There really is no better way to prepare for Notting Hill Carnival – do NOT miss out!
