You¹ve amassed quite a reputation in a short amount of time. How did you climb this journey so quickly?
I’ve been producing for a while and its taken hard work, commitment, setting high standards for one and striving for excellence. I’ve also been fortunate to work with people who are true to the music, passionate about music; I’ve just kept it moving!
Being from South London, you would expect a sound more rooted in dubstep than house and more particularly judging from your productions, a sound that¹s percussively very classic Detroit. Who would you say your main influences are since you are only 24?
My influences span as far back as I can remember, my father is a vinyl junkie and in our household it was all about MUSIC not TV, so the kinda artists I’d listen too fall in many genre, R n B Soul, Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk, Rare Groove, Jungle, House, Garage, Ska, Reggae/Dub, Studio 1, Rock, Pop. You name it; it was getting played by dad, brothers and sisters so naturally it rubbed off on me which you hear in my music.
Right now I’m tuning into Gerald Wilson and Frankly Jazz.
Being so young, you must have grown up admiring the likes of Delano Smith? Are you excited to be playing with him on nye?
Well excited, Delano Smith is huge, he’s music is full of creativity, quality sound, this is a big gig can’t wait to hear his set.
In the early stages of your career and with a new decade approaching, what can we expect to hear from WBeeza? Will there be much material you¹re releasing in 2010. Are you remixing anything big or interesting?
For the 2010 I’ve got a number of things planned, I have a new EP release titled ‘City Shuffle’ on Third Ear which I will be promoting with more releases scheduled. I’ve also produced a single for Giggs’s new album and I’m working on my video to be released soon, I’ll be pushing a range of music out there.
Do you have any international dates planned next year outside of Europe yet?
I’m negotiating some possible dates, will keep you posted on that front.
So far, what has been the most exciting gig you have ever played and why?
Most exciting gig… I would have to say secretsundaze Barcelona 09 because the vibe was tight, the people jammed, weather was right, I enjoyed myself. But I’d say all my gigs have been enjoyable in their own way.
What are you looking forward to about NYE and where were you playing on NYE last year?
Bring in the New Year playing my music and ending this year on a music high! Where was I playing last NYE …? I was in my Studio.
