Your earliest memory of music. (a song/track)
Probably the theme to loveboat... or hawaii 5-0... must be one of those 2
The first piece of music you choose to listen to.
I got a couple of tapes for christmas one year... some Beatles singles compilations.. you know the ones where they're all looking over the balcony... and a Leonard Cohen album... the one with tower of song on it.. I used to cruise around my neighborhood listening to those non-stop on my walkman.
The first piece of music you bought.
I think that would be Stevie wonder's talking book.....still one of my favourites..
The first piece of music you identified yourself with.
Well this is a funny question... because I was just thinking about how, when I was a kid, I used to listen to the classic rock station, AM600, all the time, and I used to think - man I was born in the wrong decade... cause I loved that stuff... Jimi and Zepplin and the guess who... but then grunge came along and suddenly I was right on time! I mean, seattle was the closest city to vancouver... and those bands were coming all the time... so strange as it may be but I think Mudhoney's Superfuzz Bigmuff
The first piece of music that inspired you to make music
Tough question ... I'm not sure i can answer this one... really it was all the records i was buying... and maybe a little of that Bukowski - I can do better than that - kind of thing from all the record I didn't buy.
The first electronic music you encountered. (a song/track)
Dance music... must have been some rave tapes the British girl in my high school brought with her from home.. I remember hearing james brown is dead on there.. and Prodigy's tune with the lee perry sample... gonna take him to outerspace, find another race...
The first track that made you think "wow, how the fuck did they do that?"
Headhunter's watermelon man... blew my mind..
The first record you bought as a DJ.
Masters At Work's first album... the one that had one hip hop record and one house one.. I can't get no sleep... ah that just feels good thinking about it... I wonder where it is now...
The first track you had pressed to vinyl.
I cut a dub plate in 96... thought it was golden... thought that was the start of magic time.. didn't do another until 2001... hehehe the dub plate has only been heard by a select few... same story with the record =) I've still got a couple hundred somewhere.
The first track you performed the sweet act of love to. (with another person)
Oh god... good question... I'm not sure.. but it does remind me that my mom mentioned that she and my dad used to do it to Marvin Gaye's "what's going on" or was it "let's get it on"… I think that's it... kind of blew my mind ... and scared me.. nobody wants to think about their parents having sex... sorry mom... no insult... but really do you want to think about your mom (grand ma) having sex?? I don't think so... but oh course the real funny part is i love Marvin! I love him like crazy!
oh is that it...
man ... what a weird ... and somehow fitting, note to end on....
