'Once I found that organ sound - that arp hook - I knew straight away that I wanted to take this down an oldschool Detroit route,' says Jay Shepheard about 'Shelter', his first single for Buzzin' Fly. Bolstered by classic 909 drum tones and a heartbreaker string melody, the track is indeed a killer future-retro slice of techno that has been rocking Buzzin' Fly parties in recent months.

Not that Jay is a newcomer to the label. His fat summer mix of Glimpse and Martin Eyerer's 'Southern Soul' last year was heard from Ibiza to New York and became one the label's best-selling remixes of the year in 2009.

Raised in Suffolk, Jay is now back living and working in Hackney in London after a stint in Berlin. It was while in Germany that he became good friends with the track's remixers, Catz n' Dogz. 'Ever since that killer remix of 'Ovas' on Dirt Crew last year I've been playing their tracks all the time,' says Jay. 'Their productions always sound rocking when played out. While living in Berlin I got to know them well on a personal level so they seemed an ideal choice for the remix.' He's not wrong. The Polish duo turn in two ace variations - an edgy strung-out slice of disco and a warmer sundown mix.
